Q: Is it better to rent or purchase an instrument?
A: Renting a musical instrument for the first two to three years of
instruction is the best choice for a number of reasons. Often times a
student will decide to change instruments within the first year in an effort
to find the best "fit" .  Resale value of instruments is often less than retail
price, so the financial risk of buying too early is significant.

Q:  If I rent from a company that is not local how do we make repairs like
a string breaking?

A:  I can make almost all repairs.  I will check the instruments regularly
to see that they are in good condition.  I can change out strings and tune
instruments easily.

Q:  Is it ok to purchase a violin, bow, and case set from a wholesale club
for around $150.00 - $200.00?

A:  I would not recommend purchasing these violins.  The instruments
are difficult to tune and stay in tune.  They do not have a nice sound
when played and they will require repairs to the bridge, fingerboard, and
bow which can be costly.

Q:  How often should my child practice during the week?
A:  I know that kids are busy with many activities other than school.  I would like to recommend that
they practice 50 minutes per week (10 minutes for 5 days)  I will be sending home a practice record each
week that you will sign.  As the cliche goes, "Practice makes perfect BUT perfect practice makes perfect".
I want this to be a positive and successful experience for your child.

Q: Can we buy the music books and other things from a local store?
A: Yes.  Ken Stanton Music and Ponier Music are local and carry the items you will need.
